Please vote for Cavendish for BBC SPotY 2011

Manx Missile in rainbow jersey

Britain’s Mark Cavendish, winner of 18 races this year, including the Tour de France’s green jersey and the World Championship Road Race,  surely deserves to add “BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011” to his palmares.

Please vote for him – NOW. I’m not asking again.

Thursday night Postscript: The winner is Cavvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv  who typically started his acceptance speech by thanking his team mates.

  1. He will most certainly be getting my vote.

It’s really important for cycling fans to realise that this is Cav’s one big chance to win SPotY, and he is unlikely to ever have anywhere near as good a chance again. His achievements have gone unrecognised by the wider British public for too long. The next few World Champs won’t suit a bunch sprint, and even if he wins the Olympic road race next summer SPotY will almost certainly go to a higher profile British gold medalist.

It takes surprisingly few votes to win SPotY – from memory, 200,000 to 250,000 has been enough in recent years, so a concerted effort from the cycling community could make a big difference.
