The Kennedy Award for Excellence

It might take me a while but I eventually get around to completing all my nominations. A case in point, my dear friend James A. Best – Author most kindly nominated me for this award in mid-June.

The Kennedy Award of Excellence is a registered award of excellence for blogs through their writing, presentation and objectives. It fosters human values; promoting intellectual emotional, and moral growth of peers.

I’m assuming the award is referencing the late John F Kennedy who said:

The ancient Greek definition of happiness was the full use of your powers along lines of excellence.

Physical Fitness is the basis for all other forms of excellence.

It’s hard to argue with either of those quotes!

A huge shout out and thank you to James for thinking of me, I’m most grateful. If you haven’t checked out his blog, you really should. A published author of two books A Walk in Time and The Haunting of Marcasite, he uses his blog mainly for his imaginative short stories. He also writes about music, inspired by his parents’ collection of 78s. So, head along there and give him some more support.

My Nominees For The Kennedy Award of Excellence

These are all blogs that I’ve followed for sometime and sadly are some of the many who no longer appear in my Reader timeline for reasons unbeknown to me, them or WP! Please answer the same questions posed by James.

James’ Questions

1.When did you start blogging?

I started back in 2009, ostensibly seeing it as a way of keeping sponsors up-to-date with my progress towards achieving an objective. I initially saw it as a short-term project but family and friends found it useful to keep abreast of our goings on in France, so I carried on…………..albeit with a bit of a hiatus when I started writing for VeloVoices.

2. What is your blogging objective?

It’s a useful way to record what we’re doing. If others read it and/or are informed or amused, so much the better.

3. What motivated you to start blogging?

Aside from my initial objective in 1. above, I carried on because I enjoyed it.

4. Do you see blogging as a long-term goal?

I intend carrying on for as long as I can but don’t see it as a way to earn money.

5. Is there a specific topic you enjoy?

I only write about things I enjoy!

Hope you all had a great weekend and I’m looking forward to reading all your blog posts! Sx

Song Lyric Sunday #8

Jim Adams of Song Lyric Sunday Challenge gave us plenty of notice about today’s prompt –  Musicals/Opera. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t really looking forward to this one. While I don’t mind Opera, I’m not keen on Musicals, unlike my beloved. Neither genre fills me greatly with pleasure.

So I’m turning to a musical I willingly saw at the cinema – only because it starred Hugh Jackman –  The Greatest Showman, a 2017 musical which also starred Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya. The film featured nine original songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and I’m choosing the title track The Greatest Showman.

The film is loosly based on the story of P. T. Barnum’s creation of Barnum’s American Museum and the lives of its star attractions. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film grossed US$435 million worldwide, making it the fifth-highest-grossing live-action musical of all time. The film won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for the song This Is Me and also picked up a Grammy for the Best Compilation Soundtrack.

Australian Hugh Jackman is probably better known for playing Wolverine/Logan in the X-Men film series (2000 – 2018), a role for which he holds the Guinness World Record for “longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero”. Many years ago I had the pleasure of working out in the same gym alongside Jackman while he was getting into shape for one of those Marvel movies.

In 2019, Jackman went on his first world tour called The Man. The Music. The Show. to perform songs from the album, The Greatest Showman.

Lyrics: The Greatest Show

Woah
Woah
Woah
Woah
Woah
Woah
Woah
Woah
Woah
Ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve waited for (woah)
Been searching in the dark, your sweat soaking through the floor (woah)
And buried in your bones there’s an ache that you can’t ignore
Taking your breath, stealing your mind
And all that was real is left behind

Don’t fight it, it’s coming for you, running at ya
It’s only this moment, don’t care what comes after
Your fever dream, can’t you see it getting closer
Just surrender ’cause you feel the feeling taking over
It’s fire, it’s freedom, it’s flooding open
It’s a preacher in the pulpit and you’ll find devotion
There’s something breaking at the brick of every wall, it’s holding
All that you know
So tell me do you wanna go?

Where it’s covered in all the colored lights
Where the runaways are running the night
Impossible comes true, it’s taking over you
Oh, this is the greatest show
We light it up, we won’t come down
And the sun can’t stop us now
Watching it come true, it’s taking over you
Oh, this is the greatest show
Colossal we come these renegades in the ring

(Woah) where the lost get found in the crown of the circus king
Don’t fight it, it’s coming for you, running at ya
It’s only this moment, don’t care what comes after
It’s blinding, outshining anything that you know
Just surrender ’cause you’re calling and you wanna go
Where it’s covered in all the colored lights
Where the runaways are running the night
Impossible comes true, intoxicating you
Oh, this is the greatest show
We light it up, we won’t come down
And the sun can’t stop us now
Watching it come true, it’s taking over you
Oh, this is the greatest show
It’s everything you ever want
It’s everything you ever need
And it’s here right in front of you
This is where you wanna be (this is where you wanna be)
It’s everything you ever want
It’s everything you ever need
And it’s here right in front of you
This is where you wanna be
This is where you wanna be
When it’s covered in all the colored lights
Where the runaways are running the night
Impossible comes true, it’s taking over you
Oh, this is the greatest show
We light it up, we won’t come down
And the sun can’t stop us now
Watching it come true, it’s taking over you
This is the greatest show
When it’s covered in all the colored lights
Where the runaways are running the night
Impossible comes true, it’s taking over you
Oh, this is the greatest show
We light it up, we won’t come down
And the walls can’t stop us now
I’m watching it come true, it’s taking over you
Oh, this is the greatest show
‘Cause everything you want is right in front of you
And you see the impossible is coming true
And the walls can’t stop us (now) now, yeah
This is the greatest show (oh!)
This is the greatest show (Oh!)
This is the greatest show (oh!)
This is the greatest show (oh!)
This is the greatest show (Oh!)
This is the greatest show (oh!)
(This is the greatest show)
This is the greatest show (oh!)
This is the greatest show!
