Whosoever Tag

I was most kindly tagged by Mr Holiman back in September. He’s happily married to Mrs Holiman – who also has a blog – and he loves to help others and put a smile on people’s faces. Please do go and check out his blog which, among other things, has some great advice for healthy living.

Now, I’ll be honest, I was a bit surprised to be nominated for this Tag as I’m somewhat of a religious sceptic but if asked to describe myself I would most probably say Christian, so here goes……….

 Tag Origins

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ~ John 3:16

And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. ~ Mark 8:34

Nominees

If you’d like to join in with the tag, please do, all denominations welcome!

Tag Questions

1. How old were you when you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour?

I did when I was younger but only because I went to Sunday school with my god-mother quite probably to give my parents a bit of a lie in and a peaceful start to the day. I’m much more sceptical these days.

2. How many times have you been baptized?

Just the once, that’s enough isn’t it?

3. What Bible story or verse puzzles you most?

I’m not sufficiently familiar with the Bible to say.

4. What is something you would like to know about Heaven?

I jokingly tell my beloved husband that when he dies and goes to heaven, he’s going to be sorely disappointed as no one will ever look after him as well as I do. I would like this to be confirmed.

5. Who is the first person you knew on earth that you will look for or you hope will be waiting to greet you at the pearly gates?

My parents.

6. Why do you think the streets in Heaven are made of gold?

But I don’t, why would they be?

7. What is the ONE burning question you can’t wait to ask Jesus?

If, and it’s a big if in my mind, I get to meet him I’ll ask him about injustice and inequality.

8. Other than Jesus, what person from the Bible are you most interested to meet?

Noah, I’d like to know how he managed to get two of everything in his Ark.

9. What are 3 things you won’t miss about being on earth?

Mr H’s answer was: “The people, racism and violence!” and I’m inclined to agree with him though I will miss some people, just not all of them.

10. What is the best spiritual advice you have ever received?

These pearls of wisdom were both from my Father, a man of few words.

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you

If you can give someone a helping hand, you should.

Song Lyric Sunday #18

Thoughtful Jim Adams of Song Lyric Sunday Challenge gives us plenty of notice about each Sunday’s prompts. For today, I needed to think what tracks are in my record library with Begin/End/Finish/Start in the lyrics. There are lots of candidates but I don’t want to pick one of the more obvious ones. I’ve chosen “Can’t Stop” one of the better-known singles from The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are an LA-based rock band that incorporates elements of rap, funk, punk and rock into their work, mainly classified as an alternative rock band. They made it mainstream off the success of their 1991’s fifth studio album Blood Sugar Sex Magik. After losing popularity following the release of the less successful One Hot Minute, the band reunited for 1999’s Californication. These were followed by 2002’s solid release By the Way and 2006’s double-disc Stadium Arcadium and  I’m With You in 2011.

The band’s lyrical content was mostly centered around sex, drugs, and the Los Angeles lifestyle, and lead singer Anthony Kiedis mostly rapped them as he wasn’t confident as vocalist. Most members of the band also suffered from drug addiction and had to check themselves into rehab at various points in their lives. But Californication marked a change in the band’s content matter and lifestyle. The band was sober for the most part, and the lyrics had shifted to songs about love and the pains of addiction, the title even criticized the city they loved so much. In addition, Kiedis had started to sing his lyrics much more often as he finally felt comfortable with his voice. That change has allowed the band to stick around for over 20 years despite multiple changes to their lineup and is part of why they remain relevant.

Released as a the third single from By The Way, “Can’t Stop” is known for its simple but catchy guitar riff, pulsating bass and thoroughly cryptic lyrics. Throughout the track, Anthony Kiedis highlights the predominant theme of nurturing an inner, personal energy. He addresses the verses to the listener in an instructional tone, whilst referencing inspirational figures.

A 2002 Interview with Spin Magazine revealed that the song is one that uses the band’s technique of writing lyrics to establish a rhythm, rather than making a rhythm to establish lyrics.

The track was accompanied by a surreal music video inspired by the “One-Minute Sculptures” of Austrian artist Erwin Wurm, in which the four band members perform random abstract actions worthy of display in an art gallery.

Lyrics: Can’t Stop

Can’t stop, addicted to the shindig
Chop Top, he says I’m gonna win big
Choose not a life of imitation
Distant cousin to the reservation
Defunct the pistol that you pay for
This punk, the feeling that you stay for
In time I want to be your best friend
East side lovers living on the west end
Knocked out but boy you better come to
Don’t die, you know the truth as some do
Go write your message on the pavement
Burn so bright I wonder what the wave meant
White heat is screaming in the jungle
Complete the motion if you stumble
Go ask the dust for any answers
Come back strong with fifty belly dancers
The world I love
The tears I drop
To be part of
The wave, can’t stop
Ever wonder if it’s all for you?
The world I love
The trains I hop
To be part of
The wave, can’t stop
Come and tell me when it’s time to
Sweetheart is bleeding in the snow cone
So smart, she’s leading me to ozone
Music the great communicator
Use two sticks to make it in the nature
I’ll get you into penetration
The gender of a generation
The birth of every other nation
Worth your weight, the gold of meditation
This chapter’s going to be a close one
Smoke rings, I know your going to blow one
All on a spaceship persevering
Use my hands for everything but steering
Can’t stop the spirits when they need you
Mop tops are happy when they feed you
J. Butterfly is in the treetop
Birds that blow the meaning into bebop
The world I love
The tears I drop
To be part of
The wave, can’t stop
Ever wonder if it’s all for you?
The world I love
The trains I hop
To be part of
The wave, can’t stop
Come and tell me when it’s time to
Wait a minute I’m passing out
Win or lose, just like you
Far more shocking
Than anything I ever knew
How about you?
Ten more reasons
Why I need somebody new just like you
Far more shocking than anything I ever knew
Right on cue
Can’t stop, addicted to the shindig
Chop Top, he says I’m gonna win big
Choose not a life of imitation
Distant cousin to the reservation
Defunct the pistol that you pay for
This punk, the feeling that you stay for
In time I want to be your best friend
East side lovers living on the west end
Knocked out but boy, you better come to
Don’t die you know the truth as some do
Go write your message on the pavement
Burn so bright I wonder what the wave meant
Kick start the golden generator
Sweet talk but don’t intimidate her
Can’t stop the gods from engineering
Feel no need for any interfering
Your image in the dictionary
This life is more than ordinary
Can I get two, maybe even three of these?
Coming from space
To teach you of the Pleiades
Can’t stop the spirits when they need you
This life is more than just a read throughSource: LyricFind

One word Sunday: whatchamacallit

I frequently post pictures of flowers and I have no idea what to call them but fortunately there’s always someone in the blogosphere way more knowledgeable than me!

I’ve decided to join in with Debbie Smyth‘s One Word Sunday challenge, largely because she sets them well in advance – always an advantage in my book. In addition, she’s a fantastic and inspirational photographer.
