Photo from Dubai: Day 1

Rather than do one of my regular “Postcards from……” posts I thought I’d share with you on a daily basis what I’m up to in Dubai, which will include several trips to World Expo. Typically we fly Emirates from Nice direct to Dubai but last year Lufthansa offered us club tickets (exchangeable) via Frankfurt at a steal. We didn’t hesitate and booked to stay in our usual billet, Jumeirah Emirates Towers. So when I tested positive for Covid on Tuesday of last week, my beloved (now negative) moved the flight back a few days. That sadly wasn’t enough but fortunately the third time worked a charm!!

Having travelled over yesterday, I was ready for today’s assault on my favourite bookshop in the Dubai Mall, the world’s largest destination for shopping, entertainment and leisure, located next to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. It has over 1,200 retail stores, two major department stores and hundreds of food and beverage outlets, covering more than 1 million sqm – an area equivalent to 200 football pitches.

While I could happily spend all day in this bookshop, today it was just a quick dash round to find something to read on the beach. But I know I’ll be back………………

  1. Is that the one with the fountain done in time to Ravel’s Bolero? Or is that the Emirates Mall? Been a while since I was there and memory’s a bit cloudy.
