Missing from action

I can « like » but every time I try to comment the WP gremlins advise that there’s been an unexpected error with my reply. In other words, it’s not being posted. So apologies to one and all. I have, of course, contacted the Happiness Engineers who are looking into the issue. I am praying that normal service resumes shortly.

  1. This is weird because all of a sudden, I cannot comment on some posts (not yours) because there is a message on the site “Must log in to comment.” Well, I am logged in! So, I can ‘like’ but not comment. Frustrating.

    • Lois and Sheree,
This has been happening to a lot of people and also to me. I think it is something to do with our browsers and WP updates (just a guess).

One option is to go to the Reader, do not click Visit , instead click the text and that should allow you view the post, click Like and comment.

Oh and Stay clear of Firefox.
A second option is to use Google, this browser works fine on a PC, however, if using a Mac, an iPhone or iPad, don’t use Safari, instead, go to Google and after making a comment click on the WordPress W icon. The page will flash and then you will be able to click send..
The problem does not happen to free sites, it only occurs when you visit some sites that pay a yearly fee.

I tried WP, but not enough people have reported the problem so they don’t see a widespread fault. They offered lots of advice but nothing helped. I figured out this work around for myself.

      Hope this helps.

  2. I can comment but I can not like on several sites. Calling WP tech support the happiness engineers is an oxymoron at best. Good luck!

    • Sue–I did go to Reader to comment–instead of doing it as I usually do, which is through email– and instead it went to the blogger’s personal email! And I don’t even know their personal email address! I think WP has a bit of a mess on their hands.

      • The blogger’s e-mail usually shows up when you go to the comments section on the dashboard.
I can’t think how or why it should show up when you have opened the reader. I’m so sorry this has happened 🙂

  4. Oops! It’s time I went to bed, it’s almost past my bedtime. That comment should have read… I made my first reply in the wrong place!

  5. This happens to me as well from time to time. There are some pages that are not WP pages, but have a WP page as a kind of link to their other page. On those I can often not “like”, only when I am in the reader. Sometimes I cannot like even there. It also has to do with the changing of settings, and that the settings of different pages can collide, especially the linked private pages that are not WP.

  6. I can see others have posted here Sheree, but I will just say I had similar the other month. Any time I tried to post on someone’s blog – on their actual blog, not through the WP reader, it came up with an error and then started saying I needed to fill out the form (for name, email etc) even though it was already completed or autofilled. I could, however, often comment through the WP Reader, even though that’s not my preference. I’d tried what you may have tried too with signing out and back in again but it didn’t help. It miraculously stopped one day and I could comment again as usual. I don’t know if this is similar or not, but fingers crossed it resolves soon or the Happiness guys help resolve this for you.

    Caz xx
