Flowering Friday #1

My mother was blessed with very green fingers, sadly I am not. Buy me flowers or indeed a potted plant and no bookie would give you odds on how long it’ll last. Many, of course, fall by the wayside on one of my many trips. I water them before I go and return to find them shrivelled and way past any possibility of revival. It’s a standing joke among my beloved and our friends.Β

However, I absolutely adore flowers in situ and that’s what I’m going to be featuring over the next few months or so. Here’s a hydrangea bush that caught my eye while we were driving around Bordeaux’s magnificent wine areas.

    • As far as I’m aware, I’ve not killed a hedge. At the moment I’m amazed that an orchid someone rashly bought me is alive almost 8 weeks later.

  1. I am the same way, I so wish I had a green thumb. The only flowers I tend to buy these days are carnations because they can last for 3 weeks if I cut the stems and change the water every few days.

  2. One of my faves. My grandmother had very large bushes and they were beautiful Sadly the one I had started didn’t make it.

  3. πŸ’œ Now that is a surprise from The Self Confessed Control Freak; cacti or other hardy plants like eucalypt et al πŸͺ΄ 😳 πŸ€” πŸ˜… πŸ˜„ πŸ˜† πŸͺ΄ may be the answer because, like many humans, some plants demand excessive attention and a dead plant isn’t really dead

  4. My neighbour has one but he was a bit overzealous in the pruning of it so it didn’t flower at all last year but it’s now a decent size again so should be back up to speed again this year. It’s right outside my bedroom window and is a sight to behold when in full bloom
