Ramblings of a retiree in France
I’m a big music fan so thought it might be nice to take part in Bee’s ” Love is in Da Blog” Challenge for the month of February.
Today’s prompt is a Hip-hop or Rap Love Song from your teenage years. Rap as a genre began at block parties in New York City in the early 1970s, when I was still a teenager. DJs began isolating the percussion breaks of funk, soul, and disco songs and extending them. MCs tasked with introducing the DJs and keeping the crowd energizsd would talk between songs, joking and generally interacting with the audience. Over time, it became common for the MCs (or rappers, as they soon became known) to talk and rhyme over and in sync with the music. Initially dismissed as a fad, rap music subsequently proved its commercial viability. Here’s The Sugarhill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight.
To celebrate hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, Fotografiska in New York is displaying over 200 photos spanning the culture’s five decades, curated by Jenkins and Sally Berman, former director of photography for Mass Appeal. In addition to the exhibition itself, running through 21 May, Fotografiska is also offering event programming, including a curators’ talk, panel discussions, film screenings and even a dance workshop.

Looks like I am as old as Hip Hop 😂. I thought I don’t know many rep or Hip Hop songs but it turns out I heard a lot. This one is the second today I recognise 🥰
