Ramblings of a retiree in France
I’m a big music fan so thought it might be nice to take part in Bee’s ” Love is in Da Blog” Challenge for the month of February.
Today’s yet another free choice so, of course, I’m picking another Lenny Kravitz track.
It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over is probably his most recognisable song. In it Kravitz drops the rock star image for just a moment to show his vulnerability. Written and produced solely by Kravitz, from his second album Mama Said (1991), the soulful song was born from struggles he and then-wife Lisa Bonet were facing in their marriage, processing his emotion as he sings:
How many times did we give up / But we always worked things out / And all my doubts and fear kept me wondering, yeah / If I’d always, always be in love.
Simply put, the song is a gem.
The song is a mid-tempo ballad musically inspired by Motown, Philly soul, and Earth, Wind & Fire (particularly “That’s the Way of the World”). According to Kravitz:
That song just came out one day, and I knew it had a classic vibe. And I still love that song very much today.
The line is based on a quotation from Yogi Berra: “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”
“Love Is In Da Blog” Rules/suggestions
The Motown atmosphere is so complete, I thought it was a song I’d missed from an earlier era. Kravitz is a great musician.
