Ramblings of a retiree in France
I’ve kicked off 2023 with a series of my favourite cover songs. It’s quite amazing how many artists cover one another’s songs.
Last week I wrote about a cover of a Lenny Kravitz song, this week I’m featuring another one, Are You Gonna to Go My Way by H.E.R.
Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, known professionally as H.E.R. (an acronym for Having Everything Revealed), is an American singer, songwriter, and musician who released her debut album in 2016. The following year, her compilation album was nominated for five Grammy Awards, winning Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Album. Her second compilation album, I Used to Know Her, received five Grammy Award nominations, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year.
In 2021, she was awarded the Grammy Award for Song of the Year for I Can’t Breathe. That same year, her song Fight for You from the film Judas and the Black Messiah, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song; and later earned the Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance, the following year.
Kravitz clearly doesn’t mind as he performed the song with her at 64th Grammy’s.

The H.E.R version is pretty good but again I prefer the original 🥰
