Musical Monday: Cover songs #19

I’ve kicked off 2023 with a series of my favourite cover songs. It’s quite amazing how many artists cover one another’s songs. Some artists are better known for their covers than others, such as Adam Lambert.

Renowned for re-imagining songs from American Idol to his stirring viral hit with Cher’s “Believe”, Adam Lambert – the Grammy-nominated pop icon, LGBTQ trailblazer and Queen front man – has recently issued High Drama, a wonderfully diverse collection of covers with a twist, held together by Adamโ€™s once-in-a-generation voice and trademark flair. Yes, all 11 tracks on the album are covers. So which one should I choose?

Frankly, I could’ve chosen any of the tracks but I’ve decided to go with his cover of Culture Club‘s Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?

Which version do you prefer? Let me know below.

  1. I first heard Adam’s songs while I was in high school since they were so popular at the time. When we took breaks, all we could hear outside was “Whattaya want from me?” or “All around me are familiar faces.” They all hold memories, and they’re fantastic.

But if I were to pick a song from what you’ve shared I’d go with the last one, it’s closer to my heart.

Thanks for sharing and have a great week, Sheree! ๐Ÿ™Œ

  2. I like Adamโ€™s version best. ย Iโ€™ve never cared for Cher in any way and the way they caught her dabbing her eyes so not to ruin caked in makeup was so planned and false it was sickening
