Musical Monday: Cover songs #21

I’ve kicked off 2023 with a series of my favourite cover songs. It’s quite amazing how many artists cover one another’s songs.

It’s hard to believe anyone would be bold enough to tackle a tune by Stevie Wonder, but the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Higher Ground more than did justice to one of the soul legend’s biggest hits. It even scored the group its first Grammy nomination in 1991—Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.

I’m not a big fan of the Peppers. But I like their version of this song as much as Stevie’s.

Stevie, because I’ve seen him do it live. But the Chili Peppers did a very good cover.

Wow, I’m not honestly sure if I’ve consciously heard the original before. I do prefer the RHCP version in this case!
