Tag: small joys

Over the past few months, three wonderful bloggers most kindly nominated me for the Small Joys Tag.

– Mrs Holliman, one of God’s children, who spreads God’s Word over at her blog God’s Love and on YouTube.

– Author, James A Best who shares his stories with us on his blog of the same name.

– The blogger on Life Advice with Me who blogs about her life in general.

Now, you all know what to do. If you’re not familiar with these blogs, head on over there and show them some support.

Tag Nominees

In the current, very troubling times we need to focus on what we have and hold dear, find those silver linings as the clouds gather above our heads. I’m sure everyone of you could find at least 15 small joys, couldn’t you? Exactly, so why not join in?

Things that bring me Joy

1.Remaining fit and healthy has never been more important. My beloved and I both try to incorporate some exercise into our day. Here’s proof that growing older doesn’t mean growing out of shape!

A lot of women of late have been much excited (understandably) by the above photo of Lenny Kravitz (56) on the front cover of Men’s Health magazine displaying washboard abs.

2. The weather: okay we’ve had some severe storms of late but generally I’m pretty happy with our 300+ days of sunshine per annum even as we head into autumn and winter.

3. Cycling most days on my bike. I just love getting out in the open air, it puts everything into context.

4. My small circle of friends and family with whom I’ve been able to stay in touch, providing one another with all-important support.

5. I have been spending more time in the kitchen much to the delight of afore-mentioned family and friends, and my neighbours.

6. I have discovered that while I don’t have green fingers, neither do I have the feared digits of doom. My succulent garden, all grown from cuttings, is positively thriving along with my herbs and geraniums. Yes, who knew that all you need to make a garden grow is regular love, attention and water!

7. Shorn of any live musical events, thanks to my beloved’s subscription to Apple Music, I have been encouraging him to download artists that I like. This has broadened his horizons and we now spend Friday evenings listening to music.

8. As you know, we’ve been visiting places nearby that we’ve rather overlooked or taken for granted in years’ past. We try and get out and about either at the weekend or, work permitting, during the week at least twice per month and look at places with new eyes. It’s been a lot of fun and reminded us why we love living here.

9. While we don’t watch a lot of television aside from sport, we’ve managed to catch up on a few series and films that we’d missed out on thanks to our VPN service. However, we’ve not binged and limited ourselves to two episodes a night.

10. I’ve gotten into a much better place with my blogging, making more use of my back catalogue of photos and scheduling posts well in advance leaving me more time to read, enjoy and respond to yours.

11. I’m someone who’s always busy. There’s just never enough time in any day to do everything I want to do. However, the pandemic has enabled me to just chill a bit every day which is really rather nice even if it’s only for 10 minutes. It’s good to have some me time as opposed to lots of his time!

12. I’m slowly but surely organising all my photos. I have a pile that need scanning but I’ve had to be pretty ruthless, otherwise……goodness nows how much space I’d use. I’ve already pretty much used my 13.0GB.

13. I would say that I’m an organised person while my beloved most definitely is not one. This has thrown up a few challenges but generally I’ve been able to keep on top of his generated chaos.

14. We may not be able to travel but that hasn’t stopped me from planning for when we can resume. Yes I have been vicariously enjoying planning future vacations.

15. Despite everything, life in general is still pretty wonderful.

Tag: Wanna Know You Better

I was most kindly tagged back in May by Shreya, who’s young enough to be my grand-daughter – now there’s a thought!

Shreya writes for the love of it. Her passion for writing began at the age of five, when she wrote her first book about her sister (which technically was only a few pages long, but for a five year old, it was a full fledged book). Aside from writing, nothing makes her happier than travelling to new places and learning new cultures.

Please check out her blog and give her a follow.

Shreya’s Questions

1. Do you prefer writing to speaking?

There are times when it’s more appropriate to respond in writing but in general I prefer to talk to people rather than text or send them emails.

2. Which was your favourite phase in life?

Oh no more favourites! I’ve enjoyed all the phases of my life and I’m not yet done. Who knows, maybe the best is yet to come!

3. If not for β€œEarth”, what do you think our planet should be called?

This isn’t something I’ve ever given any thought to but a Guns N’ Roses song comes to mind: Appetite for Destruction!

4. What natural phenomena fascinates you the most?

Fascinate is probably the wrong word as I’m interested in all sorts of natural phenomena such as the weather, biological and physical processes, tidal flows and natural disasters. I like to understand their cause and effect.

5. If you were given the opportunity to live in a different time period, which time period would you choose?

Despite my comment in 3 above, I’m quite happy with the current time period. As a woman I have no desire to go back in time. Maybe, I should go forward. What do you all think?

6. If you could make all schools stop teaching one subject, which would it be?

My least favourite subject at school was Home Economics but I don’t think that should be dropped. How about Religious Instruction which only covered Christianity. Instead of stopping it, the syllabus should be widened. But that was such a long time ago, maybe it has?

7. Which word do you think, although sounds easy, is tricky to spell?

When we were kids my Dad used to give us spelling tests on long car journeys. So how about YACHT?

8. Do you think life without social media will be better than life with it?

Social media used correctly has its uses, the problem is when it’s used to intimidate and spread fake news.

9. Describe time in a sentence.

Time is the ongoing and continuous sequence of events that occur in succession.

10. Would the barter system be efficient in our time?

I don’t think the barter system has ever completely gone away, but it does rely on participants in a transaction directly exchanging goods or services that they can provide and need.

11. What do you think is the greatest invention?

The bicycle!

If you want to run with this tag, please feel free to answer the above questions. Hope you’ve had a great weekend. Sx

Tag: Favourite feelings

I consider myself very fortunate to have been tagged by Mrs T aka Tangie Woods who spreads her love and positivity over at Mrs T’s Corner. Go and check out her blog and give her a follow.

Favourite Feelings (in no particular order)

My favorite feeling is being loved by my long-suffering husband. We’ve survived several months in lockdown and I now realise, we will survive his retirement when he’s home underfoot 24/7.

Another favourite, for obvious reasons, is feeling alive. I love life and try to embrace it with very fibre of my being. We’re not here for long and must make the most of it.

I like to say that I’m “never knowingly under-prepared” and I love the feeling when a plan comes together, when everything works ourt pretty much as anticipated.

I love the feeding friends and family particularly when I’ve prepared a meal for them to eat and I can see the enjoyment on their faces.

I love being able to do what I want to do when I want to do it. That’s freedom.

I also like being able to help others. My late father always used to say that if you could help someone you should. And, I like the feeling of being able to do that.

I love the feeling of tranquility, particularly in the morning when I can sit and watch the sunrise drinking a mug of hot, strong coffee.

I love the feeling of shared enjoyment and shared laughter, particularly with those who are dear to me. They know who they are.

I also enjoy knowling that I’m treating others as I would like to be treated.

My Nominees

Come on, this is a no-brainer, with no questions to answer all you have to do is list your favourite feelings – as many as you like – and nominate a few bloggers – as many as you like. I hope you’ve had a great weekend and please join in. Sx
